TAS BOOKS v8
Behind the scenes in every TAS BOOKS program is a database called Btrieve. This database stores and processes all of the information and transactions that you enter into TAS BOOKS. In essence, it’s the filing cabinet for your TAS BOOKS.
TAS BOOKS is changing
Over the past 15 years or so, Btrieve has proven to be a good, reliable database for TAS BOOKS. However, as with almost everything, old technologies need to be updated. Because of this, we’re replacing the version of Btrieve used in TAS BOOKS with the latest version – now called Pervasive Summit.
The Pervasive Summit database is incorporated into TAS BOOKS version 8 and provides all TAS users with a faster, more robust software engine.
We’ve invested a six-figure sum in Pervasive Summit and in updating TAS BOOKS to make sure when you upgrade to TAS BOOKS version 8, the upgrade from Btrieve to Pervasive Summit is simple and trouble-free.
How this affects you
With the change to using Pervasive Summit, there are some alterations to the licensing terms set by our technology partner and supplier of the Pervasive Summit database. TAS BOOKS with Pervasive Summit can now be set up in three ways depending on your needs – one for single users, one for workgroups and one for networks. You should check your setup to see which group you fall into, so we can ensure that you get the right TAS BOOKS version 8 upgrade for your needs.
What you need to do

Is Pervasive Summit better than Btrieve?
Yes! Pervasive Summit has been engineered to get the best from the latest Microsoft operating systems – such as Windows Vista. This delivers a faster and more reliable database – especially for multi-user setups.
Using Pervasive Summit allows us to add great new features to TAS BOOKS. For example, in TAS BOOKS version 8, we’ve added Excel Integrated Reporting – a feature that allows you access TAS BOOKS information quickly and easily from Microsoft Excel. We couldn’t have done this with Btrieve. It also means that you now have the option to use TAS BOOKS on a peer-to-peer network – without needing an expensive network server.
